ShapeUp and The Perfected Self
We started the month in the ….and now we’re ending it on the cover of The Atlantic!
That’s right, the June issue of one of our favorite magazines is devoted to the psychology of behavior change, and David H. Freedman’s article “The Perfected Self” does an incredible job of walking readers through the field’s somewhat tempestuous history – who knew there were former accusations of fascism!—to a vision of its bright future. All of this is done through the lens of weight loss, showing how behavior change technology is empowering people to slim down and get healthy in ways that are simpler and more accessible than in the past.
And that’s where we come in! ShapeUp is mentioned as “a shrewd investment for the employer and insurer paying…health-care costs” and our history and philosophy is provided as an example of the potential for behavior modification technology – not just in an employee setting, but writ large.
We are so thrilled to be mentioned in such an important, conscientious article, and the piece has been rightly inspiring. We certainly believe that our work has changed lives and improved communities, so it’s very exciting see to the impact of what we do (and what like-minded companies are doing) described in such a respected outlet.
